697 days since his last Leeds United appearance, Adam Forshaw finally returned to the Leeds United starting XI on Tuesday night against Crewe Alexandra in the Carabao Cup.
It was a solid return for Forshaw, who looked confident and composed on the ball, reminding those who may have forgotten just how good he is. It’s been an almost 2-year nightmare for Forshaw, who suffered a hip injury at the start of Leeds’ promotion campaign.
He was seemingly unable to get over the final hurdle to rejoin the matchday squad, but former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has suggested that the midfielder’s return could be like ‘a new signing.’ “He’s had his problems over the last two years but he’ll come into the squad, be around the squad and maybe get into the starting line-up.”
Forshaw will most likely drop back to the bench for Sunday’s clash with Burnley so Stuart Dallas and Mateusz Klich can resume their place in the centre of midfield. However, it was great to see Forshaw featuring in the first team squad once again and we hope he will have a large part to play in the season to come.
