Lost the ball 14 times – Are Leeds United already regretting their £18m signing?

Leeds United have four points from their opening four games in the Premier League. On the face of it, it is not the worst start for a side tipped to get relegated back to the Championship. However, the lack of goals has created a mood of doom and gloom around the club.

The Whites have not scored from open play this season, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has already been hammered for a lacklustre performance in front of goals in their 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday.

Leeds needed more attacking reinforcements towards the end of the window, but the problem for Daniel Farke is that the players he brought in to improve their forward line have done very little thus far.

Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha have not looked like scoring a goal. However, Noah Okafor’s poor performance against Fulham has gone unnoticed due to the noise around the strikers and Farke’s future at Elland Road.

Can you name these 10 former Leeds United midfielders?

Noah Okafor has looked average since joining Leeds United

Leeds have gambled on the fitness of some of their new signings this summer, and Noah Okafor is one of those summer recruits.

He has played very little football in 2025 and has had several injury issues in the last couple of seasons. He has already recovered from a groin problem since joining Leeds.

The winger made his first start for the club against Fulham, and in the 68 minutes he was on the pitch, Okafor did very little to show why Leeds paid £18m for him.

He had one unsuccessful attempt to put a cross inside the box and had one shot that was easily blocked. Other than that, his attacking contribution was next to nothing.

Okafor was anonymous on the left wing and was just fouled once during the game, showing how little of a threat he was to the Fulham defence.

He did give away possession 14 times, and it could have been justified if Okafor was trying to make things happen in the final third. The winger just completed one of his four attempted dribbles.

What did Leeds see in him?

It is hard to see what Leeds saw in the winger to spend around £18m on him to sign the winger from AC Milan in the summer. He has hardly played any football in the last year.

A loan spell at Fulham in the latter half of last season yielded very few appearances, and the Rossoneri were more than happy to let him go.

A cursory look at his performances in recent times shows a player who has been nothing short of average when he has not been injured.

Leeds will hope that things turn around for him as the team are already short of attackers, and if Okafor doesn’t step up, they are staring at a long and hard season in the Premier League.

Odd that you seem to contradict everyone elses opinion of Okafor. Could it possibly be that if he lost the ball 14 times, he was getting involved?

We should have signed Vardy, it was a no brainer. He’d have scored at least 15 goals this season. He’s a NATURAL goal scorer but the blinkers were obviously because of age. DC-L & LN will be lucky to get 5 each this season and that makes Piroe our best chance for goals which isn’t reassuring at this level. So, unless we do something radical in January we’re doomed. Not sure Wilson is the answer and who is Okafor, never heard of him? I’d give Bamford a go, he played better in the Premiership than any season in the Championship and desperate times calls for desperate actions. We signed 10 players in the last transfer window and as far as I can see, only Stach looks to be a quality player. It’s obvious Underwood is not up to it and should go before January, or were double doomed!!!
