‘Magic loan or free transfer’ – ex-Leeds United star makes bold statement

Former Leeds United star David Prutton has insisted that the Whites are unlikely to find a ‘magic’ player on loan or a free transfer now so it is paramount that the club move on from the transfer window and get on with the season.

The sales of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter in the summer have hurt the fans who had to digest losing three key players who got Leeds to the cusp of promotion last season.

Gray’s departure was painful as he was a player from their academy but his sale probably saved Leeds from a PSR nightmare.

Leeds have brought in a few players to strengthen their squad and were particularly active on deadline day when they signed midfielder Ao Tanaka and left-back Isaac Schmidt.

The turnover of players this summer has some fans worried but Prutton feels it was expected and they were not the only club to suffer from that issue.

David Prutton wants everyone associated with Leeds United to now get on with the season as they won’t find a ‘magic’ player now

Prutton insisted that Sunderland and Burnley are prime examples of clubs who are dealing with the issue of high turnover of players as Leeds and have still made a strong start to the season.

He stressed that Burnley were, until recently, an established Premier League side but are still facing the same problems after getting relegated to the Championship.

The former White believes that everyone at Leeds must stop fantasising about finding a player outside the window who might transform the team and just get on with the task of trying to finish as high as possible in the Championship this season.

“Sunderland have started wonderfully well”, Prutton wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We’ve seen Burnley have a turnover of players.

“They were a much more well-established Premier League side in recent seasons than Leeds but they’ve had to deal with the same thing so everyone’s in the same boat and there’s no get out.

“Unless you get some magic player in on loan or a free agent which we obviously know at this time of the year probably reflects more on the player hasn’t got a club rather than the actual kind of quality of the player, then it’s time now to basically just collectively get on with the job in hand which is to get as high up the table as possible.”
