Major appointment to happen at Elland Road

Over the past few weeks, there have been changes behind the scenes at Elland Road, as Leeds United take the next steps forward for the club.

The club was fully acquired by 49ers Enterprises in 2023 after they bought the remaining 56 per cent stake from Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani for around £170m. Since the take over, the club has been on an upwards trend in the global market. Just this summer, Red Bull purchased a minority stake in the club and struck a deal to be the front-of-shirt sponsor for the foreseeable future.

Adidas also renewed their kit deal a few months ago, after the rousing success of their latest kit. The 2024/25 Leeds away kit sold out and broke a club record.

As part of the plan to expand the global reach of the club, Leeds United have been planning an expansion of Elland Road. The aim is to move the current stadium to 53,000 in the next few years. This project has been spearheaded by the new club owners and the Leeds City Council.

Leeds United have now brought a new face on board former city councillor Lucinda Yeadon to help with the redevelopment plans at Elland Road. This news was confirmed in the published minutes for the Supporter Advisory Board:

“Lucinda Yeadon (LY) [will be] working alongside the club in the proposed expansion. [Her] role will be speaking with the community regarding plans, listening to feedback and working with consultants managing the project,” the minutes read.

“[She] wants to return in the future with more in-depth plans and is keen to engage with the group. Angus Kinnear (AK) says LY is important for fan engagement during the development.

“LY to bridge between club, consultants and supporters. AK says there is scope to facilitate specific meetings. SAB to go away and agree on a structure of dialogue with LY in the future. AK stresses [the] importance of ensuring the stadium still feels like Elland Road.”

Great news for the fans

This news on the stadium expansion will be welcome news to the Leeds fans. Expansion has been the topic of debate for a while. Moving to provide more stands and seats is a big step to reflect the global status of one of England’s greatest clubs.
