Major blow for Newcastle as key player is unavailable for Leeds United clash

Leeds United will be hoping to put a week of bad results behind them when they face Newcastle this weekend. The Whites will be back at Elland Road, where they earned their firs win of the season over Everton.

Daniel Farke’s side will be hoping for a repeat of that at Elland Road. Leeds’ work will be made much harder after Ao Tanaka was also ruled out with an MCL injury. He is expected back after the international break. The Japanese international joins Ethan Ampadu, who is also out of the sidelines.

With two midfielders set to miss the game, Farke has hinted that there will be a change in the team:

”Bit tricky because we spoke about Ethan and Ao. It’s a bit thin but we’ll find a solution. Can also set up a slightly different midfield. I won’t speak too much in public before because Newcastle will watch what I say today. Confident we can have a good set up.”

Eddie Howe’s side have another problem to add to their growing list of concerns this week. According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, the Magpies’ latest signing Nick Woltemade will miss the game against Leeds United as he will not be registered in time.

He is currently undergoing his medical after sealing a big money move this week.

Eddie Howe has other problems

Woltemade’s absence now makes it up to six first team players who could miss the game at Elland Road. Anthony Gordon will miss the match through suspension as he was sent off. Fabian Schar will be ruled out of playing against Leeds due to concussion protocols. Alexander Isak continues to force a move away from the club, while Sandro Tonali and Joelinton picked up injuries in the middle of the game.

But Joelinton and Tonali’s situations could improve before the game.
