Major concern for Leeds United as star man “frustrated”

Leeds United lost 1-0 to Millwall in the Championship midweek.

Millwall brought an end to the nine game unbeaten streak of Daniel Farke’s side. Leeds’ last loss before Wednesday was against Burnley in September. Japhet Tanganga scored the only goal of the game in the first half. Leeds pushed for an equalizer in the second half but failed to secure a result.

Joel Piroe was singled out for his poor game against Millwall. The striker played 90 minutes but failed to make an impact on the pitch.

Daniel Farke felt the loss was just down to a bit of luck:

“I’m not annoyed at all with our performance – I thought we were excellent. This is a difficult place to go and I think we’ve created more situations in and around their box than the last four away teams here in total.”

Leeds now sit in third place in the Championship, four points behind league leaders Sunderland.

Patrick Bamford was brought on late in the game as Leeds chased a result. The striker failed to have an impact; he did not have a shot on goal during his time on the pitch.

LeedsLive wrote about Bamford’s body language at full time:

“As the striker went off after full-time, he was slapping the outreached hands of his team-mates, but in a highly exaggerated, frustrated manner with a big swing each time.”

Whether that was down to how little time he got on the pitch, or a dreadful refereeing decision that had gone against him a few minutes earlier is another question, but clearly he wasn’t happy.

He touched the ball just twice after coming on, giving him virtually no chance to stake a claim for a starting spot in Leeds’ side.”

In Bamford’s defence, Wednesday’s game was his first match in two weeks. He had to pass a late fitness test to face Millwall.

Is time running out for Patrick Bamford?

Last season, Bamford was a crucial contributor off the bench for Daniel Farke. He had 8 goals in the Championship and was a reliable option anytime Joel Piroe or Georginio Rutter was injured.

This season he has struggled to stay fit, Bamford has looked very off the pace. Mateo Joseph has been a better option off the bench with his pace and trickery.

If Patrick Bamford cannot keep himself fit enough to play this season, he could find his way out of Elland Road.
