Leeds United boss Daniel Farke was desperate to sign an attacking midfielder before last season began. After losing Georginio Rutter, the club tried to sign a replacement.
Moves for Fabio Carvalho and James McAtee failed to pan out, and Farke decided to use Brenden Aaronson in the role. The American had his best ever season at club level, scoring nine league goals. He did a great job in the role, but many questioned how he would adapt to the Premier League.
It was the first time the American had hit those numbers in his career, raising scepticism about if he could repeat that in the Premier League.

An attacking midfielder could be on the list for the Whites this summer.
This is according to Graeme Bailey, who revealed that Leeds had two main targets in mind; Gustavo Hamer and Emi Buendia:
“…In terms of who they sign, I think the number 10 will be Hamer or Buendia, I think it’ll be one of those two.
“It might be Hamer because he’ll end up being cheaper, but [Daniel] Farke likes Buendia an awful lot so that might go a long way. Does his injury record go against him? Possibly.
“I think he or Buendia will go there and that might see [Brendan] Aaronson move on actually.”
PSV make Gustavo Hamer their prime target
Leeds might miss out as this European club make their first step to swoop in on their target. According to Sacha Tavolieri, PSV hold concrete interest in Gustavo Hamer, and are set to begin talks over personal terms.

The Blades midfielder was phenomenal last season, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists. He was also voted EFL Championship player of the year.
With latest names linked, Leeds could do without Hamer
According to reports, Leeds are about to add major signings like Rodrigo Muniz and Igor Paixao. Deals for Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach are being worked on. This has lead to some speculation among fans that there will be a change in system
Farke could look to a 4-3-3 which would mean the club do not need an orthodox number 10. Outside that, the fees being mentioned for some of these players sort of rules out a move for Hamer, who Sheffield United value around £30million.
