With all the talk about Leeds United signing new strikers this week, it was the club’s first summer signing who won the game on Monday. The Whites beat Everton 1-0 in front of the home crowd at Elland Road.
Lukas Nmecha stepped up to convert a late penalty to seal all three points. Before the game, all the noise had been surrounding Dominic Calvert-Lewin who was announced as the new arrival in West Yorkshire. But Daniel Farke is still pleased the club was able to sign a ”proven” star:
”Dominic is a proven Premier League player. Its important for all new signings, we want to sign players who have delivered on a top level, but they are also in a good age, on their way up the hill, not the way down.”

Calvert-Lewin missed the game on Monday night as he was ”not ready”, and from Daniel Farke’s words on Thursday, there is a chance he does not feature in the game against Arsenal.
“We will see on Dominic. He has missed a lot of team training. Every day is important. He makes a good impression and he is well integrated. Fitness, good shape. Great character.”
Obviously, there will be one more session and some fitness tests, but with the team buzzing off their first win, the striker may not be needed in the squad until he is fully match fit.
Ethan Ampadu ruled out for over a month
Unfortunately for the Whites, they will also be without Ethan Ampadu who has been ruled out till the international break.
“Ampadu out until the international break with an MCL injury. Tough boy and a blow for us. Hopefully back on the other side of the break. Not ideal. Our captain. Body language is important for us.”
The midfielder went down late in the game after playing most of the second half carrying a knock, colliding with an Everton player. His absence will cause a bit of selection headache looking at the names on the bench.
