The January transfer window may still be a few months away, but Leeds United fans are already aware that finding a No. 10 is at the top of the club’s wishlist. In fact, LeedsLive believes that one potential move could be on the horizon.
Recently, former Leeds manager Simon Grayson called on the club to tackle this issue during the summer transfer window. He continues to stand by that viewpoint, emphasizing the team’s struggle to be ruthless in the final third.
“Before the transfer window closed I said Leeds needed a creative No.10 to pull the strings in midfield,” Grayson told The Football League Paper. “I still think that’s the case, if only to add competition for places, but there’s more than enough quality in that team to win promotion.”
“What they really need is a bit of composure and ruthlessness in that final third. Time and again you see them dominate pressure and chances, but it’s like they’re always trying to score the perfect goal. They’ve not scored from outside the box for a long time. They’ve not scored off a set-piece for months and months. You don’t always have to walk the ball into the net.”
During the summer, the Whites were eager to find a playmaker for manager Daniel Farke. However, they missed out on their targets. Now, could they revisit their options and see if any of the players Leeds had in mind might be open to a move?
Is Manchester City standout on the table for a move?
A few weeks ago, Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear revealed that the club had an interest in Manchester City youngster James McAtee. Furthermore, LeedsLive notes that this pursuit could be on the table when the January window opens.
“The Whites also showed an interest in Manchester City youngster James McAtee who spent time on loan at Sheffield United,” the outlet notes. “A loan move for the England youth international is not out of the question come the January transfer window if Leeds want to bolster their squad for promotion.”
This season, McAtee has made three appearances across all competitions. If the player’s playing time doesn’t increase over the next few months, a departure in January could be on the table.
