Leeds United have done decent business in the transfer window, and are working on a few more deals ahead of the September 1st deadline. However, the club also have a few headaches to solve in terms of moving on a few players in the coming days.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds on a free transfer last week. The 28-year-old striker, who rejected far more lucrative offers this summer, has signed a three-year contract and was registered in time to be eligible to take on his former side, Everton, at Elland Road later this evening.

Leeds are also trying to finalise the terms of a transfer for AC Milan winger Noah Okafaro, who has agreed to their contract offer. The Whites have submitted a £17m bid, and are pushing to get a deal over the line to sign the Swiss winger before the end of the transfer window.

However, the Whites still have work to do in terms of moving on a few players who are not part of Daniel Farke’s plans. Patrick Bamford is still contracted to the club, and the club also yet to finalise the departure of Illan Meslier.

Lorient manager confirms interest in Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Lorient have been in talks with Leeds to secure a deal to take Meslier back to France in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Whites signed the goalkeeper from Lorient in 2020 for £5m, and the club are now pushing to take him back before the window closes on September 1st.

Lorient manager Olivier Pantaloni indicated over the weekend that the club are progressing on a deal to sign a new goalkeeper in the coming days.

The head coach has now confirmed the club’s interest in Meslier and admitted that it is a huge chance to sign a top goalkeeper. However, he did concede that a deal is not straightforward.

“He’s on the list”, Pantaloni was quoted as saying by Le Telegramme.

“It would be a huge opportunity, but the situation isn’t straightforward.”

Meslier’s departure is needed

The Frenchman has a year left on his contract, and Daniel Farke has confirmed that Karl Darlow will still be the second-choice goalkeeper this season.

Meslier has no future at Leeds, and the club need to move him on as it is their last chance to get a fee from his departure, and also move his wages off their books.

A return to Lorient could work for him as the club are back in Ligue 1, and he is likely to be the undisputed number one at his former club this season.

The Frenchman needs to move away from the glare of the Premier League and the Leeds, and build back his reputation in his homeland.
