Manchester United legend becomes latest to criticise Leeds star

The vast majority have been really impressed by Kalvin Phillips recently. As Leeds settled back into Premier League life, Phillips was brilliant and at times Leeds’ most important player last season. On top of that, he was England’s star man in their victory over Croatia. He shown at Wembley that day creating Raheem Sterling’s decisive goal.

But evidently that’s not enough for some. Earlier this week former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho criticised Phillips after England’s crucial win over the Czech Republic and to make matters worse another former Manchester United man has now taken a shot at Phillips.

Gary Neville, speaking on the ITV Football Show Podcast, criticised both Phillips and Declan Rice claiming that the pair aren’t good enough to take England to glory in the tournament.

He compared the duo with the stars France boast in midfield claiming the likes of Paul Pogba are European elite whilst suggesting that Phillips isn’t in the same league as the Frenchman.

This may seem a little strange given the poor form of the Manchester United man. When he plays at Old Trafford, Pogba is far from world class whilst Phillips proved to be one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders last season.

That didn’t stop Neville from taking aim at the Leeds United star: “You do look at that French team and see Benzema, Griezmann and Mbappe up front, and you look at the midfield of Kante, Pogba and Rabiot and you think are we as good as them? Are Rice and Phillips as good as Pogba, Kante and Rabiot, they’re not’ let’s be realistic.”

Seems a little strange that two former Manchester United men have taken aim at one of England’s in form stars whilst taking the opportunity to instead praise a Man United midfielder.

Gary Neville needs to wind his neck in, how dare he criticise Phillips, spitting out the sour grape again, one of England’s better players and he’s spouting garbage. Leave the crack pipe down Gary.
