Manchester United linked with shock move for Leeds United target – the Whites could lose significant upgrade

Leeds United

Leeds United are preparing for life in the English top flight after results in the Championship this weekend. The Whites are just weeks away from securing a Premier League birth, and possibly, a league title.

Last Friday, Burnley picked up a win to put pressure on Leeds who were playing in the early kick off on Saturday. Daniel Farke’s men played at the same time as Sheffield United, who were just two points behind. The Blades slipped up and the Whites took full advantage, after they beat Preston to move back into first place on the table.

Reports over the past week are indicating that the club are already looking into the market to find players who can help them in the Premier League. We could end up with a similar situation like the summer of 2020. Back then, a host of signings were made from around Europe’s top five leagues.

Marcelo Bielsa brought in the likes of Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Raphinha and Rodrigo Moreno. It ended up being a successful season back in the top flight for the club.

According to Football Insider this week, Leeds have shown interest in signing Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Over the past 24 hours, it has been revealed that Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the England international. Andre Onana’s recent struggles have pushed the Premier League club to find alternatives, with Ramsdale’s name popping up.

It is being widely reported that the 26-year will be looking for a return to the Premier League after Southampton were relegated.

Is Aaron Ramsdale an upgrade on Illan Meslier?

There has been rumours that Illan Meslier is certain to leave Elland Road this summer. After recent errors, he has been benched, and could sit out the rest of the season with Karl Darlow as first choice. However, one question Leeds fans need to ask: is Aaron Ramsdale better?

Statistics from Sofascore show that there’s not really much between the two keepers. And in Meslier’s first few seasons in the Premier League, he showed much more promise than Ramsdale has showed in the division. The Saints keeper has one of the worst clean sheet rates in the Premier League.

Leeds United need to revise their goalkeeping targets if the 26-year old tops the list.
