Burnley star keen on joining Leeds United before transfer deadline

Burnley winger Manuel Benson has been linked with a move to Leeds United this week. Reports of his departure from Turf Moor were accelerated after the Clarets hosted medicals for three players set to arrive this week.

HITC understands Benson is still eager to move to Elland Road despite the arrivals of Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon this week. Ramazani joined on a permanent deal from Almeria in Spain, while Solomon arrived on a season long loan from Tottenham Hotspurs.

Manuel Benson was absent from Burnley’s squad in their defeat to Sunderland during the weekend. Head Coach Scott Parker said it was his decision to leave the winger out of the squad:

“That’s just where they are in terms of their state and how they see it this year, I decided it was probably best that they weren’t involved.”

Burnley boss hints at Manuel Benson’s departure

Burnley boss Scott Parker believes that the club will be active in the transfer market before the window closes. With players like Benson looking to be on their way out of Turf Moor.

Parker said: “I think it will be a busy week – (the last) week has been extremely busy. These are some of the problems you face as a club that have just come down from the Premier League.

“I think it will be another busy week and we will have to try to manage the best we can. I have no doubt players will be leaving but we’ll be getting some players in as well.”

Benson excited to represent Angola

Manuel Benson received his first ever call up to the Angola national team earlier this week. The 27-year old was born in Belgium but has decided to represent Angola at national team level.

The Burnley winger was excited to receive the call:

“I have the double nationality through my father who was born in Angola. He was also a player too for Lokeren and for Angola a while back,” Benson told the club’s official website.

“It means a lot to me and my family. It’s a choice we made a while ago, but it’s not always been the right circumstances. So, for it now to be official and represent the country that my dad represented is a huge honour and it brings a lot of emotions and joy to my family.

“I’m excited to finally go there and live the experience with the squad and meet the Angolan people. Being a player in the national team brings a lot of pride and joy, I’m really looking forward to it.”

If Benson indeed does join Leeds before this weekend, he will be away for international duty. Angola have World Cup qualifiers against Eswatini and Cameroon next month.
