Marcelo Bielsa confirms Patrick Bamford return but Joe Gelhardt added to injury list

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie against West Ham, Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa confirmed key striker Patrick Bamford will feature in the game.

However, that’s where the good news ends for Leeds fans with the Argentine confirming Joe Gelhardt has picked up an ankle injury in training and will miss the next three weeks.

Bielsa also confirmed that Tyler Roberts will be out for a month with a muscular problem.

“As has been the case this season, the players are injuring themselves in the same position,” said Bielsa. “Similar to that of Bamford and Rodrigo, we add the injuries of Tyler Roberts and Gelhardt who injured his ankle in training yesterday and he’s going to be absent for three weeks, and Tyler Roberts a similar amount of time.

“The return of Rodrigo we don’t have an exact date and Bamford is likely to be able to play the game on Sunday, so we can end this topic of injuries.

“Phillips and Cooper are out until March and Shackleton and Cresswell after the international break. Rodrigo and Pascal [Struijk] we can’t predict when they are going to be available. Tyler Roberts and Gelhardt are approximately a month – Roberts injury is a muscular problem.

“I can’t give any extra information at this stage regarding the starting 11 [for the West Ham game on Sunday].”

Sunday’s game at the London Stadium kicks off at 2pm and is live on ITV.
