Marcelo Bielsa is one of the founding fathers of the modern game as we know it, with many of the game’s top coaches taking direct inspiration from his coaching philosophy.
However, Bielsa himself has admitted that there is a manager that inspired him as well- Current Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal. Speaking in a Q&A session with Sky Sports, Bielsa was asked “Who is the manager you admired the most as a young coach?”
“Louis Van Gaal” Bielsa answered. “because I watched a lot of the teams he built, especially his unforgettable Ajax side, and I liked the football they played a lot.” Van Gaal has a strong reputation within football, so it’s no surprise to see that Bielsa is a fan of his philosophy.
