Leeds United’s final four games examined in detail

With 10 games to, the Premier League’s final sprint is creeping up on us. The most important stretch of games is about to unfold and it could go onto make or break your club’s season.

Leeds United are flirting around mid-table. Survival – this season’s objective – is not yet confirmed but it seems highly likely. So, the goal for Leeds in this final stretch will be to finish as high as possible and push for the top half of the table.

With that in mind let’s look at Leeds’ final 10 games and predict what results they’re likely to get and where they might finish.

Saturday 8th May: Tottenham Home

Prediction: Draw

Spurs aren’t having the season many expected them to have when they topped the table in November. They’re very much a mixed bag and could very well blast Leeds to bits. Equally, Spurs could put in a very weak performance allowing Leeds to power passed them. So, I’m sitting on the fence for this one. Leeds are capable of pushing Spurs even on their best day so I can see these two playing out a memorable draw.

Tuesday 11th May: Burnley Away

Prediction: Loss

I can see Leeds losing this game. As stated earlier, sometimes Leeds can struggle a touch against more defensive sides. Burnley are one of the best defensive teams in the league and will make everything tough for the Yorkshire side. All it could take is a fluke goal at the other end to give Burnley the three points and they might have the tools to do so as they have impressive height up front which could see them punish Leeds from dead ball situations given their frailty at times from set-pieces.

Saturday 15th May: Southampton Away

Prediction: Win

Southampton have somewhat fallen off a cliff in recent weeks after a positive start to the campaign. Leeds look set to finish above the Saints but I can see the two playing out a fascinating and entertaining game. Both teams love possession and always play on the front foot looking for goals. However, with Leeds in better form I can see them vanquishing Southampton.

Sunday 23rd May: West Brom Home

Prediction: Win

This could potentially be Leeds’ first performance in front of supporters since promotion last season. I can see the Whites putting on a show for their fans if so. They battered West Brom earlier this season and with the Baggies set for relegation, Leeds will likely do the same again when they meet at Elland Road hopefully in front of fans.

Points: 53 Position: 11th

At the start of the season I predicted that Leeds would finish 11th and the way things are going they may well prove me right. In their final 10 games they have some tricky fixtures some against the big boys and some against teams who’ll make themselves difficult to break down. So, like this season as a whole, it’ll be an up and down end to the campaign for Bielsa’s boys. However, they’ll be more positives than negatives and I think they’ll garner enough points to finish at least 11th. Their total may see them creep into the top half.
