Bundesliga club Sporting Director admits interest in Leeds United defender

Maximilian Wöber has received interest from a Bundesliga club

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Sporting Director Rolan Virkus has admitted his interest in Leeds United defender Maximilian Wöber. Max was on loan at Borussia last season and played 27 matches for the Bundesliga outfit.

He played so well that the Austrian got into his nation’s Euro 2024 squad making three appearances for Das Team. Virkus hasn’t kept his interest a secret claiming they couldn’t sign him before due to contractual disagreements. He told Football League World,

“We are of course monitoring the market. We cannot meet Leeds United’s demands and Leeds are not looking for a loan. That is why the matter is on hold for the time being.”

“But we have always found good solutions – and players like Max Wöber sometimes come back onto the market at the very end. Of course, there are also late decisions.”

More comments suggest an ongoing interest from the German side.

“Maybe they won’t play a role in their club or they’ll want to go somewhere else because there might be too many in the same position.”

Obviously, Gladbach would prefer a loan deal over a signing. This will help them get the job done for way less and no transfer fees are involved.

Leeds on the other hand aren’t keen on a loan. No matter how dear Max is to the club, everyone has a price and so does Wöber. If United decide to sell the defender it is going to be at a very profitable rate which can help the club’s finances.

Maximilian Wöber probably isn’t going anywhere unless of course, Borussia come up with an undeniable offer. Another situation that Virkus explained is if he doesn’t fit into Farke’s squad which might tempt the defender for a move.

If Max leaves this summer it will probably be for an excess of £11 million. This is the fee that The Whites paid Salzburg while signing him. A loan deal is probably off the cards subject to the player’s discontent.

This sale will lead to a butterfly effect where in The West Yorkshire outfit will raise their interest in Swiss defender Bruno Ogbus. Currently, they are only monitoring Bruno waiting for a potential opportunity to pounce on.

Leeds would like to develop a young and high-potential squad that can help them become a mainstay in the Premier League.
