Met Office issue warning ahead of Leeds game – postponement could be possible

Leeds United have a huge game just before the international break. They face Thomas Frank’s Spurs side who currently sit in the top four in the Premier League table.

The Whites will be hoping that their last two results will give them a boost ahead of Saturday’s game. Leeds have beaten Everton, and held Newcastle to a goalless draw at Elland Road. Daniel Farke’s side almost beat Bournemouth last week, but a late equalizer meant they only got a point.

Spurs will be the visitors this weekend, and Leeds fans will be hoping they can get a huge result ahead of the international break. Tottenham’s form in games immediately before an international break has been poor – they have failed to win any of these games in over a year.

Speaking about Elland Road, this week, the Met Office issued a weather warning for a small part of England. The Office later sent out a new warning, this time for the entire region including West Yorkshire. A yellow warning has now been issued, with strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall expected on Saturday. There will also be a 90 per cent chance of precipitation, with winds almost reaching 50 miles per hour in some regions.

Luckily for Leeds United, there is no immediate risk of postponement for the Spurs game. But parts of West Yorkshire could be be flooded leading to road closures, which could affect travelling supporters and general transport.

Club already has contingencies planned

Like many other top flight clubs, Leeds will  have contingency plans in place in case of severe weather conditions. Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett gave some insight on what goes on behind the scenes when preparing for these conditions.

“The pre-match planning at Leeds United with the Stadium Manager, the Police and I would suggest all Emergency Services will be taking place to ensure all contingency arrangements are in place.” he told MOT Leeds News.

“Once the game gets underway, if that is the decision, they will have to plan if the game due to the weather is not completed.”
