Millwall boss Gary Rowett says Charlie Cresswell can become one of the best defenders in England

Millwall boss Gary Rowett says Charlie Cresswell has the potential to become a ‘fantastic centerback’.

The Leeds United loanee has made 19 appearances so far in the Championship this season, his performances have been impressive in the defence. The 19-year old has started 11 times, scoring three goals and providing an assist from the heart of defence. Cresswell has been so good this season, that he has kept many senior players at Milwall on the bench.

Lions coach Gary Rowett has hailed the defender’s impact: “It was a really difficult decision because young Cressy has done really, really well in the games that he has played. Coming back into a different system, it has really suited him. He has done really well.”

“It was a difficult decision, that one. Ninety-nine per cent of the other players haven’t got the captain waiting to come back into the team who is such a big player for us over a long period of time. There is always that temptation to get Hutchy back in, which is no reflection at all on Cressy as a player. Cressy is a really good player and he’s going to be an absolutely fabulous centre-half. Hopefully he keeps learning and getting better and better.”

Cresswell is highly rated at Leeds, and the club is very big on his future. A great end to the season at Milwall could see him challenge for a first team spot as early as next season.
