Millwall manager takes swipe at Leeds United – It’s clear mind games

Leeds United are preparing to face fellow Championship side Millwall in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Elland Road on Saturday. The Whites sit at the summit of the Championship standings and are massive favourites to beat the Lions and progress in the cup this weekend. Leeds fans want a deep cup run and Daniel Farke is likely to field a rotated but strong team to get the job done. However, it is going to be a tough game as Millwall have won their last three league games on the bounce and are just four points off the playoff spots. They are no Harrogate Town and Millwall manager Alex Neil has laid out his intentions ahead of taking his team to Elland Road this weekend.

The Whites have raised their level in recent games, which has allowed them to consolidate and increase their lead at the top of the Championship standings this season.

Leeds United are now massive favourites to earn automatic promotion to the Premier League and that remains the primary focus of Daniel Farke and the rest of his squad.

However, Leeds are also keen to have a deep cup run and are just two wins away from reaching the quarter-finals of the competition this season.

An in-form Millwall side are their opponents in the fourth round and they are not going to be any pushovers given they have won their last three league games and just four points off the playoff spots.

The Lions are coming to Elland Road to cause an upset and Neil has already fired his shots at Leeds ahead of the two sides clashing this weekend.

Alex Neil reminds Leeds United his side are in form and have already beaten them this season

Millwall have often been a bit of a bogey team for Leeds and games between these two sides are often fiery and hard-fought with either side not giving up an inch.

The Lions are unbeaten in four in the Championship and are very much in the playoff conversation despite being eleventh in the Championship standings at this stage of the season.

Neil indicated that every side in the Championship have something to play for when they come up against Leeds and conceded that it is likely to be a tough game given how well the Whites are playing.

But he was quick to remind everyone that Millwall are in good form as well and have already shown this season that they can beat Leeds when they won 1-0 at the Den in November.

The Millwall manager told the club’s in-house media: “I think everybody seems to have a rivalry with Leeds.

“It will be a good game, Elland Road will be packed and we will take a good following.

“It will be difficult because obviously they are in good form, we know that but we are in good form as well.

“We have already shown this year; we have beaten Leeds 1-0 at home, and so we certainly can get a result from the match.”

Leeds are the better side, they can ignore the mind games

Leeds will field a new-look side but Farke already showed in the previous round that he won’t go for wholesale changes and disrupt the rhythm of the team.

The Whites have been a treat to watch at Elland Road and Leeds are still expected to win at home even if they play a rotated side on Saturday against Millwall.

26 points separate the two sides in the league table and Leeds have a chance to show why Millwall sit eleventh while they are at the top of the Championship standings.

Farke will steer clear of playing mind games ahead of the game and is aware that if his side play to their potential they should beat Millwall at Elland Road.

Yes, Leeds lost to Millwall earlier in the season but that was at the Den, a tough away trip for any side in the Championship and the Whites were yet to get a grip of their form on the road.

However, at Elland Road, Leeds will be the favourites to despatch Neil’s side and progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
