AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho was delighted with Diego Llorente after his performance in their Europa League tie against Feyenoord.
Since the Spanish defender returned to fitness, he has started the last three league matches and was able to play 72 minutes last night before being subbed off. Llorente was part of a resolute defence that foiled and frustrated the Eredivisie side on Thursday night.
Roma overturned a 1-0 defeat in the first leg against Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord, winning 4-1 after extra time. The Serie A side scored twice in the second half before scoring two more goals in extra time to seal a semifinal tie against Bayer Leverkusen.
Mourinho believes Llorente has had to wait, but his place in the side is a huge bonus:
“Of course [Llorente is] important. He needs to grow. Llorente already has a great deal of experience. He needed time to learn how to play with us.
“When our game arrived it was weird for him. Now he already plays with stability and is perfectly integrated.”
Leeds sit two points above the relegation zone after their 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool on Monday night.
