National team boss makes huge decision on Leeds star with ‘struggles’ this season

Leeds United spent a large part of their transfer budget in the summer on the defence and the midfield. Many fans complained about the lack of attacking reinforcements.

But adding depth and quality to the backline and midfield seems to have paid off this season. Despite Leeds conceding five goals to Arsenal, they have had a relatively good defensive record in other games.

The Whites kept clean sheets against Everton and Newcastle, and only conceded one goal against Fulham and Wolves. This weekend, Daniel Farke’s side face one of the best attacks in the league with this Tottenham side. Thomas Frank’s side have scored 11 goals in the league, only three teams have scored more.

Jaka Bijol earns Slovenia call up

Matjaž Kek has called up Jaka Bijol for October’s World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Switzerland. This comes after comments this week about the defender’s playing time at Elland Road this season. The Slovenian national team boss recently spoke on Bijol’s lack of game time, and how that is not important to him during the international break:

“Bijol, [Petar] Stojanović and [Benjamin] Šeško have more problems in their environments. But now they play for the national team.

“I expect that these everyday problems will be forgotten here. The national team is also an opportunity to prove someone wrong.”

Kek also shed some light on why the 26-year old has not featured much this season, echoing Daniel Farke’s words from last week.

“This is also about the red card from Italy, which was why he was not in the coach’s first plans.

“The team is starting to play well, but they are not conceding goals. Why would he change?

“Add to that an unfortunate match in the cup, and things have come together like this. Just like with Sesko – both in terms of quality and character, accepting things in the cruel world of professional sport, it is clear that he will get his chance.”

Leeds United star’s time will come

Leeds have played just seven games this season, there are many games left. And with the fixture pile up near the end of the year, Daniel Farke will certainly rotate and Bijol will have his chance to play.

The Slovenian is a really good player, but is only kept out of the team due to Leeds’ great form.
