“Never”- Gary Lineker drops bomb on potential Leeds United transfer

It has been reported by many outlets that Leeds United are searching for a striker this month. This comes after Daniel Farke asked for reinforcements in attack.

Leeds have been backed into that position after losing three options in the role. Patrick Bamford has been asked to find a new club, Mateo Joseph has also left on loan. Two players that provided depth behind Joel Piroe last season. Joe Gelhardt, who was not in this season’s plans anyway, has also joined Hull City on loan.

Getting a striker as a newly-promoted team is difficult. You need to get a player who can create goals out of nothing, as well as carry the team up the pitch every time a long ball is played.

It was reported this week that Leeds had taken a decision on Dominic Calvert-Lewin. According to the report, the former Everton man is the backup option if the club fail to sign Fulham star Rodrigo Muniz.

Gary Lineker has weighed in on Calvert-Lewin and where he could end up this summer. Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker does not believe the striker will be prolific if he signs for a Premier League team this season:

“It’s hard to know. I suppose if you look back at his career there’s been a decent season or two. He’s got all the attributes [but], he’s not a clean finisher and that for a striker is an issue. He’s never going to be a 20/25 goals a season player even in a side that’s really attacking and has got creative players. I think in the end in football, you find your level.”

What Daniel Farke has said about signing a new striker

After the AC Milan game, Farke said the team needs someone who is productive up front.

“We are capable of playing at a good level but in order to be ready and to win games at this level, you need players who can score goals and give assists.”

Who do Leeds end up with later this month?

Per multiple reports, Leeds still see Rodrigo Muniz as their prime target. The Whites are being patient, monitoring the situation. Atalanta have tried, but have not reached an agreement with Fulham at Tuesday.

Hopefully the higher ups at Leeds United can wrap up a major deal before the month ends.
