‘Never Say Never’ – Leeds United legend teases 49ers about managerial role

Leeds United have made a steady start to life back in the Premier League, which has removed questions around Daniel Farke’s future at the club, for the time being. However, the 49ers are in the market for a new manager.

The American consortium took charge of Rangers over the summer and appointed former Southampton boss Russell Martin as their first key decision at the start of their reign at Ibrox.

However, Martin crashed and burned early, and a terrible start to the season meant the new Rangers board had to act, and the former Saints boss was sacked earlier this week.

Rangers are now in the market for a new manager, with Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe playing a big role behind the scenes as the vice-chairman at Ibrox.

Leeds United legend is open to a Rangers return

Gary McAllister was Steven Gerrard’s number 2 when Rangers won the league title under the former Liverpool star a few years back, but since then, the Glasgow giants have struggled to keep up with Celtic.

The former Leeds star admitted that he and Gerrard had a great time at Rangers, and it is natural that they are again getting linked with a return to Ibrox.

He is not aware of Gerrard’s intentions, but he hinted that if the former Liverpool star wants him back on board for a Rangers return, he would be open to it.

“Well, the thing is, we had a wonderful time there. We really enjoyed our time there, and Stephen did an amazing job getting that 55th title”, he said on Sky Sports.

“There have been three or four managerial changes since we left, and he’s always going to be linked with Glasgow Rangers. He loved his time up there.

“I don’t know, he’s obviously been out of the game for about six or seven months now, so you never know what can happen.

Asked if he would say yes to reuniting with Gerrard if asked, McAllister said: “It’s a big question that. You never say never, do you?”

Leeds fans will watch the Rangers turmoil closely

The 49ers got their Russell Martin appointment horribly wrong and were forced to sack their handpicked manager just a few months into the new season.

They are now working to bring in a new manager, and Leeds fans will be closely monitoring the situation at Ibrox as the 49ers could face the same situation at Elland Road sooner or later.

Their appointment of Farke has worked out, but the German is on a shorter leash in the Premier League, and a downturn in form could put the focus on his job at Elland Road as well.

Leeds fans will hope to pick up clues fromt the Rangers situation to assess whether the 49ers will be ready to act swiftly if the Whites require a change in the dugout in the near future.
