Leeds United manager Daniel Farke cannot escape the rumours around his future as his team lurch from one defeat to another. The Whites have lost six of their last seven and have suffered four defeats on the trot.
Manchester City were made to sweat for their 3-2 win by Leeds at the Etihad. Farke’s men looked like a different team in the second half and surprised the home side.
However, Leeds’ losing streak continued in Manchester, and they are still in the relegation zone. They will face an in-form Chelsea side at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
The 49ers are looking at potential replacements, and the club are expected to make a decision soon if Leeds continue to lose games in the coming week.
Tim Sherwood tips Daniel Farke to get sacked at Leeds United
The names of Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou have emerged as the top two contenders to replace Farke, which means the 49ers are looking at options.
Tim Sherwood conceded that he 100 percent expects Farke to get sacked in the next week or so because of the team’s poor results.
He doesn’t believe the German should be shown the door as he still feels the Leeds manager is getting the best out of a limited squad at the moment.
However, he stressed the Leeds owners cannot sit back when the team are losing so much, and it is easier to change the manager than players.
“He will get sacked within the next three games. 100%”, Sherwood said on Sky Sports on Saturday.
“I don’t think he should, I think they should keep hold of him because he’s getting the best out of the group. People will say they spent £100m, but they’re way behind and have a lot of Championship players.
“A lot of established Premier League teams are spending more, so they’re going further ahead. He will get sacked because they won’t sit on their hands. They can’t change the players, they’ll change the manager.”
Farke needs a result against Chelsea
The Leeds manager is under pressure, and the home game against Chelsea on Wednesday night could be make or break for him at Elland Road.
There were claims that the 49ers have already decided to sack the German if he doesn’t get points against Manchester City and Chelsea.
Regardless of that, Farke needs to display that he did learn something from the fight his team put up at the Etihad on Saturday.
The Leeds boss played two up front in a 5-3-2 in the second half against Manchester City, and the team looked a far better side against Guardiola’s men.
| Stat | Man City |
Leeds |
|---|---|---|
| Shots | 17 | 5 |
| Shots on target | 8 | 2 |
| Possession | 63% | 37% |
| Passes | 497 | 254 |
| Pass accuracy | 93% | 86% |
| Fouls | 17 | 11 |
Farke rarely moves away from his 4-3-3 system. However, he showed rare signs of flexibility at the Etihad.
But there are doubts whether he will persist with that against Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
If Leeds and Farke get a result on Wednesday night at home, then the narrative will change. However, the onus is still on the German to remain proactive.
