New contract sees potential Leeds United deal collapse before January

Leeds United fans were disappointed that the club failed to bring in any new signings on deadline day. The frustration carried on into the international break, when the club’s managing director had a few words to say to local media.

Robbie Evans explained the ins and outs of the transfer window, and explained why the club took some decisions. Especially failing to sign a new player on deadline day. Leeds made a last ditch attempt to sign Fulham star Harry Wilson, but the London club pulled the plug later on.

Daniel Farke will not have to make do with the squad until January.

Before Leeds confirmed the signing of James Justin, they were keen on Bournemouth’s James Hill. The defender’s versatility intrigued Daniel Farke.

The 23-year old was a perfect market opportunity as he had less than 12 months left on his current deal. Leeds could have gotten him on a cheap if they could. But now, plans of a possible move have been scattered as Hill has signed a new four-year contract with the Cherries.

This new deal means that there is zero chance of Leeds pursuing a move in January.

What Hill has said on signing new Bournemouth deal

After signing his new long-term deal, the defender was delight to extend his stay at the club. Hill has been at Bournemouth since 2002, joining from Fleetwood Town.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to put pen to paper.” he said on Bournemouth’s website.

“Ever since coming to the club when I was 19 years of age, I’ve felt that this place was home.

“It’s not just the players inside the club that have made me want to stay, but the fans as well, I’ve felt really welcomed since the first day I stepped through the door.

“I’m happy to continue and I can’t wait to get started for the next four years.

“It’s really exciting here. Every day we’re developing, learning and it’s such a young and hungry group that, going into every game, there’s a possibility to win.

“We go into every game thinking that we can win and that mindset in the changing room in terms of wanting to get better and wanting to push as a group is really exciting.”
