‘No regrets’ – Ex-Leeds United player stuns fans with Elland Road admission

Leeds United remain a special club in English football, but the club have experienced a churn in the last few years. It has led to the club losing a few talented young players who have gone on to build on their reputation and are on the cusp of joining bigger clubs.

The Whites have been far too occupied with either staying in the Premier League or getting promoted to the top flight in the last few years to focus on providing chances to young players to make it at Elland Road.

Leeds have seen several young talents slip away in recent years, as managers prioritised results over youth development in the fight for promotion or survival.

One of those players has opened up about his short stay at Leeds and conceded that he has nothing to regret about his time at Elland Road.

‘Leeds United was a life experience’ – Elia Caprile

Elia Caprile impressed for the Leeds United Under-21s but never made an appearance for the senior team before he was sold to Bara in 2022.

The former Leeds goalkeeper is making a mark for himself in Italian football with Cagliari, and is believed to be on the radar of bigwigs of Serie A ahead of the winter window.

His value has soared since leaving Leeds, where he didn’t get much of an opportunity, but he has no regrets over his time at Elland Road.

Caprile stressed that Leeds was a life experience for him as he was at a Premier League club where he was forced to compete with players fighting for their livelihood.

“Leeds was also a life experience: I learned English and saw football from a different perspective”, Caprile told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Then Pro Patria. I arrived with a long contract with a Premier League club, and I shared the season with teammates who were competing for their contracts year by year.

“I learned a lot.”

He was sold for a deal worth £1.5m, but Cagliari could fetch more than £26m from his sale, with Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus believed to be keeping tabs on him.
