English fifth-tier side FC Halifax Town has penned down a two-year deal with former Leeds United youngster Harvey Sutcliffe. Harvey was among the youngsters who’d been released by Leeds this season. Without losing hope Sutcliffe continued his journey through football finding a new club and the 20-year-old has finally signed a contract with FC Halifax Town.
Harvey plays as a defender and has been a part of the Leeds family since childhood. The defender came through the youth ranks at the Leeds United Academy. He signed his first professional contract with The Whites in 2022. Unfortunately, the youngster suffered a cruciate ligament injury just three months later.
The full-back has made 30 appearances for Leeds’ U18s and 25 for the U21 side. Even after signing a professional contract with the West Yorkshire outfit, he couldn’t make a single appearance for the first team. Later, this summer Leeds United decided to drop the youngster leaving him as a free agent.
The defender then agreed to go on a trial with Yorkshire outfit which after succeeding they agreed to sign a two-year deal. The contract is extendable to another 12 months through mutual agreement. Halifax boss Chris Millington had nothing but praises for the youngster. He appreciated the youngster’s versatility and labeled him as a “positive addition” to the team.
Harvey Sutcliffe’s future at FC Halifax Town Post-Leeds United exit
Harvey has a lot of space for improvement considering he’s only 20. Sutcliffe’s versatility will be a useful asset to Halifax Town as the youngster will look forward to breaking into League football again sooner or later. The right-back follows in the long list of players who left the club this season namely, Luke Ayling, Jamie Shackleton, Lewis Bate, Cody Drameh and Ian Poveda.
Halifax Town Gaffer Chris Millington talked about the youngster’s impact and importance to Halifax Courier:
“Really positive addition to the group, he’s a lad we’ve known about for a long time, in particular Coops, who worked with him at Leeds United and was very positive about him when we knew he was becoming available.”
“He can play at right-back predominantly but also left-back and also will be willing to do a job at centre-half if required. He fits our recruitment model – he’s a talented player who needs the right environment to get the best out of him so we’re really looking forward to seeing him develop over the next couple of years and show what he can do at The Shay.”
