An unfortunate incident near the end of the season seems to have drastically changed plans for Leeds United this summer. Over a month ago, the club were in a bad stretch of five games where they only managed to win one.
Leeds managed to pick up just six points out of 15. And then, in the Swansea City game, Illan Meslier made two huge mistakes as the Whites played a 2-2 draw. With their promotion ambitions growing slimmer, Daniel Fare made a bold decision.
He decided to drop Illan Meslier to the bench, making Karl Darlow the first choice keeper. Since Darlow has been in goal, the club’s fortunes have turned around. Four wins in five, and just two goals conceded so far. Leeds also wrapped up promotion last week.

This has left Meslier’s future in the air, as there is a high chance he will not be the first choice keeper in the Premier League. And it looks like Karl Darlow will also not be the starter next season, as the club have been linked with multiple targets.
Leeds have been previously linked with Norwich City keeper Angus Gunn. It has now been confirmed by the Canaries’ manager that the 29-year old will not renew his contract this summer, and will be a free agent. Gunn also mentioned early last month that his club had not made his future clear to him:
“I’ve not heard anything from the club, which is a worry,” he told BBC Radio Norfolk, when asked whether he will be a Canaries player next season.
“I do get asked that question a lot but honestly I can’t answer it because there’s been no communication.”
Football Insider have also confirmed that Gunn is on Leeds United’s list this summer.
Angus Gunn is not better than current options
The Norwich City star has a decent amount of experience, and can be a starter. However, the Premier League might be a step above his current ability.

Looking at this season’s statistics, he is almost on par with Illan Meslier – who was benched at the end of the campaign. The only appealing aspect of signing Gunn is that he would be a free transfer.
