Leeds United signed 10 new players last summer in preparation for their return to the Premier League. The 49ers were keen on adding quality to their squad to boost their chances of survival.
The recruitment this season has played a huge part in the Whites success; the team targeted players from Europe’s top leagues. Unlike other newly-promoted clubs who swept up the Championship’s best players, Leeds took another route. Anton Stach, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Jaka Bijol and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all played huge roles as the Whites are one step closer to guaranteeing another season in the Premier League.
Tony Dorigo praises Leeds United star
Stach especially, has caught the eye since his arrival at Leeds United. The club beat out a few European sides to get him to sign a deal at Elland Road, but his impact has been massive. Former Leeds man Tony Dorigo has praised the German midfielder, saying that he is one of the best characters the club has ever signed.
“I think what Anton gives us is something that we haven’t got in any other midfielder. It’s as simple as that. When he’s not playing, we lack that drive in midfield because he’s a player, I think, that he goes forward in lots of different ways.” he said (quotes via The Yorkshire Post).
“Not only does he look forward with his passing, I think he can run forward without the ball. He arrives in areas, supporting the strikers, but also he runs with the ball, he can carry it 30/40 yards because of his pace and range. And as we know, when he gets into those areas, he finishes rather well.
“I think he’s been a great signing, a great age. I would also say character-wise, one of the best characters we’ve had. I think that’s where the club have done really well. Bringing in the right players is one thing, but making them gel and with the right characters [is another].”

Anton Stach has been a revelation this season
The German midfielder’s influence in this Leeds side is very great. Daniel Farke unleashed him in a box-to-box role despite his reputation as a defensive anchor. This has brought a new dimension to his game, as he can influence matches across the park. His ability with set pieces has also been crucial as the season has gone on. Farke could not ask for a better signing than the former Hoffenheim man, who is arguably the club’s best signing this season.
