Patrick Bamford has been struggling with injuries all season and has made just ten substitute appearances in the Championship this season. Leeds United fans have been left frustrated by the striker’s body failing him consistently. However, he is again closing in on one more return to the team.
The Leeds forward is the highest-paid player in the squad, but has been more or less a non-entity this season due to his serious issues with fitness.
Patrick Bamford has not played for Leeds since a 20-minute cameo in a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on New Year’s Day in January.
The forward has been recovering from an injury over the last few months and only returned to training last week, along with Max Wober, who has been recuperating from a knee surgery.
Daniel Farke has sounded positive about Patrick Bamford
Bamford has yet to score for Leeds this season, but remains a big presence behind the scenes and is a striker option Farke has been unable to use.
The striker could still contribute to Leeds getting promoted in the coming weeks and so it is good news that Bamford is gradually getting fitter to play.
Farke revealed that the forward is closing in on fitness with each passing day and is definitely in the mix to be in the matchday squad for the trip to Luton Town on Saturday.
“Each and every day on the training pitch brings them [Bamford and Wober] closer and is beneficial for them”, Farke said in a press conference.
“They’re also in the mix, yes.”
Leeds need to find a way to get the best out of Bamford in the next few weeks
Bamford is far away from the player who played a big role in getting Leeds promoted in 2020, and then proved himself in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.
Over the years, injuries have ravaged his body, and physically, he is not at a place where he can play at this level for a club of Leeds’ size anymore.

However, he still has a presence inside the penalty box, and if Leeds need a scrappy goal in a tight game in the coming weeks, he could still make a difference for the Whites.
He may not play from the start for Leeds again, but Bamford could still make a big difference in a cameo role in the team’s efforts to secure automatic promotion in the remaining seven games of the season.
