Shock news hits Leeds United on Thursday night, as the club announced that Patrick Bamford is leaving after seven years at Elland Road. The 31-year old left as one of the oldest serving players with the team.

He will fondly be remembered for the 2020 Premier League season, where he scored 17 goals as the Whites finished in the top half of the table. His last few years have been plagued with injury and fitness problems. Bamford was able to contribute as an option off the bench in Daniel Farke’s first season as Leeds reached the play off final.

This past year, he was only able to manage over 300 minutes of club football. It was based on that decision that Daniel Farke told him he was not part of Leeds’ plans for this season. Bamford was left in the UK during pre-season in an effort to sort out his future.

Many clubs were interested, but his wages and possible transfer fee seem to be problem. But now, Leeds have officially announced that the striker’s contract has been terminated via mutual agreement. Bamford’s deal was supposed to expire next summer, but he now makes an early exit from Elland Road.

Part of the club’s statement upon his release read:

”Leeds United can confirm that a mutual agreement has been reached with Patrick Bamford which will see the striker leave the club this summer.”

”After seven years with the Whites, the forward departs Elland Road as a two-time champion and double promotion winner. He will forever be a part of our proud history.”

”Bamford joined the club in 2018 from Middlesbrough and instantly endeared himself to supporters. Wearing the famous number 9 shirt throughout his time at Elland Road, he would score many crucial goals and be part of some incredible moments.”

”…His determination and fight on the pitch was matched by his professionalism and dedication to the surrounding community away from it. Patrick’s commitment to supporting important campaigns and causes whilst also engaging with fans in need across our region saw him regularly attending Foundation events, as well as arranging his own under-the-radar personable moments away from the public eye.”

”There has never been any doubt in Patrick’s enthusiasm in representing Leeds United and his understanding of respecting our famous club badge. He has given everything to the cause and is welcome back at Elland Road, anytime.”

”Thank you Patrick and good luck in your next steps, you are forever a double champion and will remain a proud part of our history.”

Bamford did not make a single appearance this season before his exit.

No player chooses to be injured. Bamford did his best when he could and regardless of differing opinions, he played his part over the years and as a human being was guilty of a few mistakes and moments of genius too. What every genuine Leeds fan should say now is thanks Patrick Bamford you played for Leeds United and we appreciate you. Good Luck for your future!
