Patrick Bamford makes Wrexham transfer decision – contract playing a key factor in Leeds United exit

Patrick Bamford could be the latest Leeds United player involved in a transfer saga this summer. The 31-year old has been linked with a move away from Elland Road.

Leeds are already dealing with Illan Meslier; the keeper is now being offered to multiple clubs. But selling him may not be easy, according to reports. Junior Firpo is another player the Whites are waiting on; he has a contract offer on the table, but is currently being linked with a host of clubs across Europe.

Bamford has been previously linked with a move away, with Wrexham being a possibility. But in recent weeks, the club have distanced themselves from a move for the striker.

Wrexham are set to continue their policy of signing big name players to help win them promotion. When they were in League One, they targeted Championship players, and now that they are in the Championship, they have their sights on some Premier League names.

Bamford has one year left on his current contract, and a move away could benefit Leeds financially. However, Graeme Bailey has revealed that the striker is not keen on leaving anytime soon:

“For Patrick Bamford, what makes it very difficult is his contract. He’s on a big contract at Leeds, so it all comes down to that; we’ll have to see with him. I think with Bamford it’s a tough one.” he said to EFL Analysis.

“I don’t think he’s in a massive hurry to go, I’ll be honest. He does back himself. He’s in the Premier League, and you’re a long time out of the Premier League when you retire or when you leave. I think he’s going to have options and we’ll see, but I don’t necessarily think he needs this to be done quickly.”

There is a big chance Bamford stays

The 31-year old is settled, on some of the highest wages at the club, and will probably feature in Premier League games. There is really no incentive for him to leave to go elsewhere. Maybe the offer it will take to sign him will involve a lucrative deal. But for now, there is a high chance that Patrick Bamford stays at Elland Road.
