This season, Leeds United won the Championship in impressive fashion. The Whites hit the 100-point mark, and scored 95 goals in the process. Daniel Farke has done a great job this season considering the circumstances.
The Leeds boss began the campaign without Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter. Yet, the club topped the scoring charts in the Championship.
Joel Piroe was the club’s starting striker, with Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford as backup. Despite being an influence in the promotion race last season, this year, Patrick Bamford was barely on the pitch. He only featured in 17 games, playing a total of 252 games – equivalent to just over two full 90 minute games.

Patrick Bamford speaks on Leeds United future

This has lead to questions over the 31-year old’s future. He has recently been linked with a move to newly promoted Championship side Wrexham. The club is backed by American millionaires, and could easily fund a move for a striker with his wages.
In a recent interview with CBS Sports Golazo, Bamford revealed that he is not ‘open’ to a future away from Leeds United yet:
“…I think once you have a family and a wife it’s got to be run by them and to be fair they gave it the green light, and they said ‘look, we’re going to go with whatever’s for you and whatever challenge you want to want to take’, so it is something that I would be open to yeah, we just don’t know when yet.”
The striker also spoke on a possible future in the MLS.
“I think it’s something that, obviously over time I’ve spoken to Michaela [his wife] about it, in terms of playing abroad, and America being one of the options…”
Keeping Bamford is not a good thing
Some would make a case that experience is necessary for the Premier League, but it does not really apply in Patrick Bamford’s case. The striker has barely been available this year, and his injury and fitness are a huge worry.
His wages are also a problem Leeds need to offload when they get to the Premier League. No use keeping a player around who cannot actively contribute to the team next season.
