Daniel Farke took over Leeds United in 2023, and in just two seasons he has guided the Whites back into the Premier League. What is more impressive is how he did it this season – with a 100 points in the Championship.
One of the key moves the German made in his first year in charge was signing striker Joel Piroe. Farke knew Patrick Bamford’s time at the club was gradually coming to an end. Bamford has since made 15 starts over the span of two seasons. Injuries and fitness issues have kept the Englishman sidelined. But even when he was fit, Farke has not really trusted him.
Youngster Mateo Joseph has had more of a greater role in the team as the backup striker this season.

This has lead to speculation that Patrick Bamford is on his way out of the club. His availability is a great concern heading into the Premier League. Reports claim Leeds are looking into the market to find a striker, as the club will not depend on Piroe as their first choice center forward.
Bamford meanwhile has hinted that he will stay next season, which will be the last year of his contract. He has been linked with a move to Wrexham.
The 31-year old recently said in an interview that he is looking forward to the Premier League. Bamford also praised the 49ers for their work at Elland Road so far:
“I think that obviously last time round it was so long before, well since Leeds have been in the Premier League and everyone was desperate to keep us there for as long as possible. And I think now especially with the the ownership and the 49ers and the way they’ve kind of set things up, I think that they’re giving it a little bit more stability this time round which obviously only bodes well for the club itself.”
What role will Bamford playing next season?
Ideally, the striker should not be a regular option to rely on. As seen last season, his injuries and fitness problems will hamper any plans with him in the team. With Leeds being linked to better, and more active attacking options, it will be best for the club to move on from Patrick Bamford.
If Wrexham are able to submit a good offer, the Whites need to take it. Getting his huge wages off the books will be a huge plus.
