Patrick Bamford: What we know as Leeds United’s stance analysed

Patrick Bamford was not in the squad for Leeds United’s 3-3 draw at Hull City due to another injury set-back but it helped him to escape scrutiny as the focus turned on the Whited dropping two valuable points at the MKM Stadium. However, he remains a problem for Leeds as he has failed to provide any sort of reliable cover to Joel Piroe due to his constant injury issues. A move away from Elland Road has been mooted this month but no concrete offer has landed on Leeds’ table for the striker in the winter window.

Daniel Farke had some words of praise for Bamford last month and briefly, it seemed that the forward could yet play a significant role in helping Leeds get promoted this season.

However, the Leeds boss has done little to back those words and the little game time he has received this season has come from the bench. He is still waiting for his first start of the season.

Bamford is no longer the force that he was in the Championship or even in the Premier League and injuries have limited his physical ability over the last few seasons.

Leeds have kept him around but it is clear that he would have to be moved on either in January or next summer as he is not adding much value to the squad with his presence.

The Whites are unlikely to sign a striker in January unless they can move on Bamford’s wages but for the moment, it is unclear whether a deal could be agreed for his exit.

Patrick Bamford – his contract and the Wrexham links

Bamford still has close to 18 months left on his contract and is on top wages at Leeds. Getting him out of Elland Road would be tough for anyone in the winter window.

The striker is not pushing for a move as he is aware that he is unlikely to get the wages he is on at Elland Road now, anywhere else and no club are yet to show any concrete interest in him.

League One outfit Wrexham are interested in getting their hands on the striker and are considering trying to sign him in their bid to get promoted to the Championship.

Back-to-back promotions have got the Welsh side to League One and they are eyeing a third promotion campaign on the trot to get to the Championship next season.

They are third in League One and very much in the mix to get promoted. Their Hollywood owners want to add more star power to their squad in the winter window to boost their promotion hopes.

Bamford remains a proven goalscorer and would add much-needed experience to the Wrexham squad who are trying to pull off another promotion this season.

However, his big wages are likely to be a problem even for Wrexham who have big Hollywood owners with deep pockets and it is unclear whether the Leeds striker is open to dropping down to League One.

His time at Leeds will wind up soon

Bamford has made ten appearances in the Championship this season but all of them came from the bench and his only start came in the EFL Cup defeat to Middlesbrough in August.

With him recovering from an injury, it is unlikely that the forward will be in the squad for the FA Cup clash against Harrowgate Town this weekend.

Farke doesn’t trust him and his diminishing physical abilities mean he is becoming less of a threat to Championship defenders, which is clear from the fact that he is still waiting for his first goal this season.

He does add experience to the dressing room but it is clear that his Leeds career is on it’s last legs and he will leave either this month or in the summer.

Moving him on in the winter window would help Leeds bring in a new striker who could add real value to the squad in the latter half of the season.

Whether Bamford sees the writing on the wall for him soon is a different factor but it is clear, he doesn’t have any future at Elland Road.
