Paul Heckingbottom warns teams about playing at Elland Road – Leeds United home form is impeccable

Leeds United

Saturday was a great series of events for Leeds United fans. Their team put away Preston as they continued their promotion charge, and one key result went their way.

Sheffield United, who also played in the early kick off, shockingly dropped points to Plymouth. Two late goals saw the Blades lose the tie, and crucially, three points.

On the other hand, Leeds secured a hard fought victory at home to Preston. Missing some key players like Dan James did not disrupt the team. Goals from Manor Solomon and Jayden Bogle capped off a crucial win in the run-in.

After the game, Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom admitted that his side were second best on the day. He also added that teams know they have to defend when they come to Elland Road this season:

“We knew it was going to be tough. Really disappointed with the two goals we conceded. I thought they were poor on our part, but if you look at the whole game, Leeds had the chance. Pleased with our response, really enjoyed the second half – felt it was end-to-end – but yeah, they created the better chances than us. When you come here, you’ve got to make sure that you defend as well as you possibly can, be really clinical and you get the moments.”

Elland Road form could win promotion

This season, Leeds have won 16 of their 25 games at home. That is 64% of their total wins in the league this season. Elland Road is one of the major reasons why Daniel Farke’s men are in the driving seat for promotion. Leeds’ away form on the other hand is nothing impressive to look at – just nine wins this season.

Farke has worked hard to make the team’s home a fortress and the fans and players have had a lot to do with that. The atmosphere against Preston was electric in the first half, and you could see the results. With two of the last four league games being at Elland Road, Leeds can book their ticket to the Premier League soon.
