Paul Merson makes surprise admission ahead of Leeds United game

Friday night will be a very important match for Leeds United. At this point of the season, points are there to be fought for as teams try to establish their place in the league before the midpoint of the campaign.

The shocking defeat to Burnley last weekend has set the Whites back quite a bit. After a promising run of results following the September international break, this defeat has been a tough one to take. Daniel Farke’s side could have gotten something out of the game, but once again their attack failed to convert their chances – something that seems to be a real problem in recent games.

Up next for Leeds is West Ham, who are also looking to set their season back on track. The Hammers have already sacked Graham Potter, and Nuno Espirito is looking for his first win at the club.

Paul Merson has been speaking on what he thinks will happen on Friday night, and has given a rather surprising verdict concerning the game. According to him, Leeds United might edge this game at Elland Road:

“I watched West Ham against Brentford on Monday and I must admit, I haven’t seen anything as bad as that for a long time!

“Leeds have done a decent job so far, but they will be extremely disappointed about losing to Burnley last weekend.

“That is a game they know they should have won. The battle to avoid relegation will be really tight this season, with Leeds and West Ham expected to be involved throughout.

“I don’t think West Ham can afford to lose this game, and Leeds can’t afford not to win!”

He then concluded his take.

“But that is the reality now, and it shows how unpredictable things are in the Premier League.

“If West Ham lose this game, I don’t know what can save them. I’ve got to pick a winner now? Wow, this is hard!

“Only because of what I saw on Monday with West Ham, I’m going with Leeds here.”

Daniel Farke needs to pull out a result on Friday night

The atmosphere around the club is tense, and with reports of a shareholders’ meeting soon, the pressure is really on. Despite it being early in the season, were are just over a month away from reaching halfway.

It is these important points and results you pick up at this point that could determine your stay in the Premier League next season.
