Daniel Farke had a big part to play in the transfer market before the season began. Leeds United lost three of their best players last summer and were expected to challenge for promotion this season.
After the devastating loss to Southampton, there was an exodus of players that summer. Mostly a clear out of players from previous transfer eras. The main losses were Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.
Losing the EFL Championship player of the year and Young Player of the year was a huge blow. But Daniel Farke somehow managed to get the team back on track this season. Using his experience from Germany, Leeds managed to sign Ao Tanaka. Manor Solomon, who joined the Whites on loan, also revealed that Daniel Farke convinced him to make the move from Spurs.

The two moves paid off in a huge way. Tanaka was one of the best performers in the Championship, winning Leeds’ Players’ Player of the season award. Manor Solomon’s contribution was key – he scored the winner on the final day of the season to win the Championship.
Farke looks set to follow this success as he looks to the Bundesliga again. According to reports in Germany, the Leeds boss will make a push to sign one of his former players. The Rheinische Post (via Sports Witness) has revealed that Gladbach star Julian Weigl could be ‘lured’ to England by his former coach.
Reports indicate the Bundesliga side have already lined up Weigl’s replacement – FC Basel’s Leon Avdullahu. A lot will depend on where Gladbach finish this season; if they miss out on Europe, the 29-year old will be on his way out.
Weigl would be a huge addition to the midfield
You can never have too much quality in the middle of the park in the Premier League. Weigl is one of the best defensive midfielders in Germany this season. He combines defensive acumen with ball playing ability.
This season, the 29-year old ranks eight for blocks and interceptions in the Bundesliga. He would make a perfect foil for the current options in the Leeds midfield.
