Leeds United spent close to £100million this summer, making significant investments in the defence and midfield. Fans may complain about how the window ended, but the club did enough to build a serious squad.

Those two areas of the squad seem to have the best performers so far. Anton Stach has been a revelation in the middle of the park for the Whites. His goal against Wolves this weekend was the first time in a couple of years that a Leeds player had scored from a direct free kick in the Premier League.

So far, it is only the attack that has been lacking a bit this season. But if the game against Wolves is anything, there are a lot of positives for Daniel Farke.

This past summer was another where Kalvin Phillips failed to make a return to Elland Road. The midfielder picked up an injury before the end of last season and had to undergo surgery. He recently returned to training and has been part of the first team sessions. On Thursday night, Pep Guardiola named Phillips in the Manchester City squad to face Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup.

The midfielder has gone from being on the edge of being left out of the Premier League squad, but has now returned and could even feature tonight.

Former Leeds United star’s situation discussed

Pep Guardiola was speaking to the media about Phillips and his Manchester City career so far. The midfielder has barely played since he joined, and spent the last two years on loan outside the Etihad.

“Maybe I didn’t give him enough minutes, I don’t know. Rodri was fit, like our father, protective of 10 sons.

“The lack of minutes, the way we played, completely different from Leeds with Marcelo [Bielsa].

“It’s just the environment, how they connect with the way we play, with teammates.

“And players play good when they have minutes, games and I didn’t give them. And when that’s happened, I feel bad.”

There has been speculation that Phillips could join Leeds United this January, but it remains to be seen if the interest in concrete.
