Diego Llorente did his bit to make sure he hastened his exit from Leeds United in the summer and joined Real Betis at the start of pre-season in the summer.

Llorente spent 18 months on loan at Roma before last summer and was always expected to move on from Leeds in the last transfer window.

Roma were the early favourites to sign him on a permanent deal but Real Betis convinced the player to join them from the Yorkshire giants.

Leeds bagged a fee north of the €3m figure from the sale of the 31-year-old centre-back to Real Betis in the summer transfer window.

The centre-back has been a regular in Manuel Pellegrini’s side and has made a big impact since moving back to Spain in July.

The defender hastened his exit from Leeds United to make sure he joined Real Betis before pre-season training

Llorente has earned widespread praise in Spain for looking solid and at home at the heart of the Betis defence this season.

He is one of the first names on Pellegrini’s team sheets and one of the reasons he has adapted quickly is that he joined Betis before pre-season.

According to Spanish sports daily Marca, the defender pushed hard in negotiations to make sure that he left Leeds in time for pre-season training with Betis.

He pushed to hasten his exit from Elland Road and was a Betis player before their pre-season training began in July.

A solid pre-season has meant that the defender has looked settled in the defence and has been a solid player for the club.

Leed signed Llorente from Real Sociedad when they got promoted to the Premier League in 2020.

However, he left Leeds in January 2022 to join Roma on loan and was in Italy until the end of last season.

The 31-year-old centre-back is enjoying being back in Spain and being an important player at Betis.
