Leeds United shocked fans when they announced their first signing of the summer. The club announced Lukas Nmecha on a Sunday.

The deal was confirmed just hours after the links made the headlines. Fans were surprised with how fast the deal came about. Nmecha was a big signing this summer, setting the tone of thow the transfer window would go. An experienced player from a top league in Europe with some quality.

Then Leeds followed it up with the signing of Udinese’s Jaka Bijol. Another deal that went under the radar; the Slovenian defender had consistently been one of the more solid players in Serie A. He had interest from Inter Milan before the Whites closed the deal. Some people have suggested that the club’s transfer window has been ”underwhelming” so far.

Leeds are now set to spring a surprise signing like they did with Lukas Nmecha. According to Graham Smyth of the YEP, Wolfsburg defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is set for a medical in West Yorkshire on Monday. Leeds have agreed a deal around £5million for the 26-year old.

The report adds that the defender will sign a four-year contract at Elland Road. Bornauw has made over 140 Bundesliga appearances, and has an eye for goal, scoring 11 in his career in Germany.

Bornauw is another signing from Wolfsburg, following the steps of Lukas Nmecha. Daniel Farke has undoubtedly relied on his connections in Germany to seal another very good deal for the club.

Sebastiaan Bornauw brings mixed opinions

Bornauw played just over 700 minutes in the Bundesliga last season, starting just eight games. But he fits the same profile as Bijol and Nmecha; the Belgian is 6ft2 and very good in the air.

The defender was a threat from set pieces this season, scoring twice. Outside his ability in the air, there is a concern about his ability on the ball. His stats for passes, and carries rank very low, which means he is not active in the build up for Wolfsburg. It will be interesting to see how Daniel Farke handles that skill set this season.
