Player’s agent aware of interest this summer – decision to be made amidst Leeds United pursuit

Leeds United have a huge task on their hands, figuring out what to do with the squad. The quality in the Premier League is just at a different level recently. And now, promoted clubs have their hands full closing the gap.

Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City were all relegated this season, after being promoted last year. Leeds topped the Championship, and hit 100 points but will be wary of the same fate. After lifting the league title, club Chairman Paraag Marathe promised the fans that he will help keep the Whites’ top flight status:

“Together we are going to build the best squad we can with every penny we are allowed to spend to compete in the Premier League. I’m under no illusions that it’s going to be easy. I know all the stats, that last season’s three promoted clubs went right back down.”

This week, there were reports that Leeds will have around £150million to spend in the transfer market.

Leeds are still in the market for a new goalkeeper after the events of the last few months. Illan Meslier was dropped in the run in, with Karl Darlow stepping in to guide the club to the league title. Since then, reports have emerged that Meslier will leave in the summer.

In recent days, Leeds have reportedly made Chelsea star Djordje Petrovic their first choice target this summer. The Serbian keeper is currently on loan at Strasbourg, where he has been earning plaudits. TEAMtalk have revealed that Petrovic’s agent is aware of the clubs pursuing the 25-year old.

With the keeper set to return to Chelsea this summer, a discussion will be held over his future.

Leeds need to address goalkeeping position

Leeds will reportedly put aside £30million to address their goalkeeping issues. Petrovic seems like a good way to spend that money. The Serbian is third in Ligue 1 for clean sheets this season with 10, and his 108 saves this campaign also ranks him among the top 10 stoppers in the division.
