The transfer window is often more exciting than the season itself, with many people clamouring to see where the biggest stars in the game will end up next.
Free agents can offer some of the best value for money in the market due to the lack of a transfer fee, so today we are looking at potential free agents Leeds United could sign when the transfer window opens on June 1st.
Patrick Van Aanholt
Leeds are in need of a new left back this summer, mostly due to the fact they don’t have a natural left back in the squad. Bielsa has converted Alioski into a left back over the past couple of seasons, though he isn’t great at defending and appears to be making the controversial move to Galatasaray in the summer. Stuart Dallas has filled in there when needed but they are looking at numerous natural left backs, one of which is Van Aanholt. The Crystal Palace defender has many options on the table, but his pace and Premier League experience would be valuable for Leeds, even if he is 30 years old.
Julian Draxler
Leeds were linked with the German last summer and will have another chance at signing the versatile midfielder in the summer. Draxler’s development has stalled at PSG following a very bright start to his career at Schalke in the Bundesliga. He is still only 27 years old though, so there is still time for the world cup winner to reach his potential. Leeds would have to work quickly on this one though, as many clubs around Europe will be keeping a keen eye on Draxler.
Florian Thauvin
Thauvin has revived his career at Marseille following a less than impressive spell at Newcastle from 2015-2017, where he made 13 league appearances and never scored. The winger has scored 45 league goals in 91 league games since making the permanent switch back to Marseille and he would add some more quality to Leeds United’s side. Helder Costa appears to be on the fringes at Leeds and Thauvin would be a fantastic replacement for him. We know that Victor Orta keeps an eye on Ligue 1 due to the shrewd signing of Raphinha for just £17 million, and he will undoubtedly have been impressed by Thauvin.
