Premier League striker heavily tipped to make Leeds United move – would have to overcome obstacle first

Daniel Farke’s recent transfer targets have revealed that Leeds United are looking for one thing this summer. The club’s latest links have shown that Premier League experience is priority for the signings.

This looks like a drastic shift from the last two transfer windows at the club. Farke has gotten some value signings from leagues across Europe, especially Germany. Ao Tanaka arrived this summer after the Leeds boss pushed for the deal, and the midfielder played a crucial part this season. The Japanese international was voted Players’ Player of the Year.

Sam Johnstone was linked last month, as Leeds were in the market for a new goalkeeper. Midfielders Sean Longstaff and Tomas Soucek have also been linked with a move to Elland Road.

Multiple reports have indicated that Leeds could be looking to sign a new striker before the start of next season. Sources claim that the club do not see Joel Piroe as someone to lead the line in the Premier League. This is despite the striker scoring 19 league goals in the Championship this season.

The main targets this summer are believed to be Jamie Vardy, and Callum Wilson. Vardy and Wilson are out of contract this summer and will be free agents. Newcastle recently decided against triggering an extension in his current deal.

Rory Smith believes Jamie Vardy would be the perfect fit at Leeds United:

“I think he makes a lot of sense for Leeds if he can overcome his inherent Sheffield Wednesday fan status. The experience, the fact that there aren’t many proven goal scorers who are available.

“Leeds have got plenty of goals in the team, but they don’t have a focal point. There are questions about whether Piroe can make the step up.”

Are Leeds underrating Joel Piroe?

Piroe has 33 goals in the last two seasons in the Championship. The striker was top scorer for a Leeds United attack that netted 95 goals. Most people would think he was a no-brainer to be the starter next season. However, it looks like the club have doubts.

It is kind of unfair to Piroe, as Patrick Bamford was trusted in 2020 and he ended up with 17 goals. Before that season, he had just one goal in the English top flight. Maybe if Leeds trust Piroe, he can produce a similar season next year.
