Preston make shock decision on Leeds United star – transfer deal to be closed

Leeds United

This summer could be another crucial window for Leeds United. Before the season began, the Whites had the chance to offload unwanted players.

Most were players from previous ”eras” of transfer policies. Leeds shipped out Ian Poved and Cody Drameh, both of whom were signed under Victor Orta. Rasmus Kristensen and Robin Koch also left the club in the summer. Both players jumped ship when the club was relegated to the Championship.

This summer could see more exits from the club, as Leeds prepare for Premier League football.

Despite being a decent player on loan at Deepdale, there have been reports that Sam Greenwood will return to Elland Road. Alan Nixon is reporting that Preston will choose to opt out of the option to buy clause in the 23-year old’s loan deal.

Greenwood has eight goal involvements for Preston this season – the third highest in the team. But Paul Heckingbottom’s side will be looking to go in another direction as they search for upgrades in the current team.

This summer will probably be Sam Greenwood’s last at Elland Road, after two unsuccessful loans, the club may eventually be forced to sell.

Sam Greenwood could command a decent fee

Even though he could not quite cut it at Leeds United, his showings on loan at Middlesbrough and now at Preston, there is something there. He might not be the same quality of player he was at a younger age, but the potential is very obvious.

His two spells away at Elland Road have shown that he can still play at a decent level. But teams should not expect too much from him. This season, he has been the second-best attacker at Preston this year. Greenwood ranks second in npxG+xAG (Non-penalty expected goals + expected Assisted goals). This means he’s one of the more productive attackers at Deepdale. Sam Greenwood could command a decent fee this summer.
