Carlton Palmer has backed Daniel Farke to take Leeds United towards matching last season’s points tally in the ongoing Championship campaign.
Leeds were desperately unlucky to miss out on automatic promotion last season when they scored 90 points but were beaten to the post by Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
They suffered further heartbreak in the playoff final when they lost against Southampton and were forced to prepare for one more season in the Championship.
Leeds are one of the prime contenders for automatic promotion this season but have started the campaign slowly and are sitting ninth in the Championship table.
The club owners have decided against panicking and are keen to give more time to Farke to turn things around in the coming weeks.
Former White backs Leeds United to match last season’s points tally
Palmer insisted that Leeds are doing the right thing by backing Farke despite the slow start to the season as he has the experience to navigate Leeds back to the Premier League.
However, he admitted that the German is under pressure to kick on in the coming games and get Leeds back to the top flight at the end of the campaign.
He believes Leeds will again be a strong automatic promotion contender and backed them to match their points tally from last season.
“Patience is needed, I think he’ll post 90 points again, and I think Leeds will be there or thereabouts”, Palmer told the Football League World.
“What’s important is that Daniel Farke does get Leeds promoted this season because if they don’t they’ll be looking and saying he’s had the tools to do the job.
“It has been a bit tricky in terms of players leaving the club, especially when he came in late last season.
“But now they’ll be looking to kick on and get promotion this season, but definitely the right decision at this moment in time to keep Daniel Farke.”
