Pundit urges Leeds United to sign Georginio Rutter replacement

Leeds United vs Valencia

Former Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter seems to be settling in well at Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, Leeds United may have found a player who could match the production Rutter provided.

After Leeds United dropped to the Championship, Rutter really hit his stride under manager Daniel Farke, netting eight goals and contributing 16 assists last season.

Unfortunately, despite his strong performances, the team fell short of promotion, losing to Southampton in the Championship Play-off Final, which led to several players departing the club.

This past summer, Leeds United sold Rutter to Brighton for a reported £40 million. After facing some initial challenges, he appears to be regaining his confidence, but as for his former club, the Frenchman’s talent is missed as the Whites can be inconsistent with their goal-scoring.

Dan Bardell has mooted Ryan Kent as a potential free transfer replacement for Georginio Rutter at Leeds United. Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist believes the Englishman could replace Rutter and his output after he joined Brighton in the last window.

“It feels like a Leeds-type signing, Ryan Kent,” Bardell told MOT Leeds News. “They lost quite a few attacking players over the summer window and they’re lacking some creativity in those areas.

“We have seen how good Georginio Rutter has been at Brighton this season, he’s definitely been a miss. Could Kent be someone who could offset that a little bit?

“He’s good enough to play at the top end of the Championship you would think. It’s going to be a long season and one where I don’t think Leeds have the bodies that they did last season. If the wages are right then I think Kent would be a good pick-up for Leeds.“

Leeds United are set to face competition from Leyton Orient to sign the 27-year-old after his release from Fenerbache. The winger made a name for himself at Rangers and could make a return to the UK on a free transfer to Elland Road after Leeds made a £2.5million bid in the summer.

It will be interesting to see if Daniel Farke and his team add another attacker that can allow them to be more consistent in the goal-scoring department after this past weekend’s result against Bristol City.
