Rangers eyeing shock move for Leeds star Daniel Farke says has been ‘loyal to the club’

Leeds United managed to offload just two players on permanent transfers this summer. The club did not do so well when it came to exits, but were very proficient when it came to adding new signings.

The Whites brought in 10 new signings over the transfer window, adding quality and depth to the team. But in order to accommodate some of these players, there needed to be some space in the squad.

So Daniel Farke made some bold decisions to move players on, including Patrick Bamford, Max Wober and Largie Ramazani.

According to TEAMtalk, Rangers are one of the club’s interested in signing Illan Meslier. The Frenchman has been attracting interest since the transfer window in England closed. According to the report, Leeds will try and offload the 25-year old in the January transfer window. Inter Milan, Lorient and Valencia are the other clubs that are keeping their eye on the Leeds star.

Sources say that Leeds would want a fee for Meslier, despite his contract expiring next summer. This means he is free to enter talks over a pre-contract in January.

Meslier has slipped down to third choice in the pecking order since Lucas Perri arrived this summer. Karl Darlow took his place at the end of last season, and now the club’s record signing has also jumped above him.

Daniel Farke gave strong backing to Illan Meslier

At the end of last season, when Meslier’s errors threated to put Leeds out of the title race, Daniel Farke was the first to emphatically back the goalkeeper. He reminded people of how good the French stopper was in previous years. Farke also praised Meslier’s loyalty.

“He is a 24-year-old man who is quite self-critical and he was disappointed with his last performance,” the German told BBC Radio Leeds.

“He came here more or less as a teenager and has been loyal to the club even when there has been interest in him. He is highly-rated in the football world and has more than 200 games for us already.

“He was named as the best goalkeeper in the Championship last season, named by a neutral panel. He has kept 14 clean sheets so far this season and we are top of the table.

“It’s important to be honest about what he can improve but also to back him.”
