Sunday saw Leeds United complete their first signing of the summer transfer window. The club announced the addition of German forward Lukas Nmecha on an initial two-year deal.
The 26-year old will officially join the West Yorkshire club on 1st July after his contract ends with Wolfsburg. Nmecha has spent the last few seasons of his career in the Bundesliga, and is a former Manchester City academy player.
The news made headlines late on Sunday, and within hours, the club had announced the signing. It was kind of strange, because the German had not been linked with a move to Elland Road since the window opened.

Ranking current Leeds United striking options
With the arrival of Nmecha, now the club has a bit of depth up top in attack. Joel Piroe, Lukas Nmecha, Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph are expected to be the options competing to start next season. That is if none of them are sold later this month.
Let us rank these four players, factoring in their ability and likeliness to be the starter in the Premier League.
1st – Lukas Nmecha, Leeds United

A lot of signs point to the German being the starter next season. He has the height and physical presence to lead the line, and has experience at playing at the top level. Nmecha’s experience will come in handy next season
2nd – Joel Piroe

Last season’s starter is very likely to lose his spot in the Premier League. Before the window opened, there was a lot of concern if Piroe could play in the top flight. And now, Nmecha’s signing looks like a response to that.
3rd – Mateo Joseph

Joseph deserves more minutes in this Leeds United team. His growth over the past year alone has showed that he has the quality to lead the line. Now a major target of clubs, he should see some minutes behind Joel Piroe.
4th – Patrick Bamford

There is almost no chance that the veteran plays meaningful minutes when the Premier League begins. Bamford is also in line to leave this summer if the right offer comes in. He will be the last option in the pecking order.
